Fireplace Accessories

There is nothing quite like sitting in front of a fireplace on a cold winter's eve. Fireplaces warm the soul and make any home feel warm and inviting. But in order to have a working fireplace, you need the accessories to go with it to keep the fire going and to keep you safe and warm. Fireplace accessories can be found at pretty much any store that sells fireplaces. There are some stores that sell portable fireplaces and will also have accessories on sale. The important fireplace accessories include an ash pan to collect ashes, something to carry in and contain wood (for wood burning fireplaces), a poker, hearth brush, tongs and shovel and a fireplace screen. You should also have a place in your basement or outside of your home to store wood. Fenders for your fireplace to prevent a mess on your floor is also a good idea. You can also purchase fireplace trim as a finishing to your fireplace to have it blend in better with the room surroundings. Fire grates are important because they make the wood burn better and distribute the heat, and fire guards are the same as the fireplace screen.

Gas Fireplace Accessories

Gas fireplaces are an elegant addition to any home lending beauty as well as heat. In order to run your gas fireplace effectively and have it look as natural as possible you will need a fireplace screen, grate, hearth fenders and valve keys. The valve key regulates the heat put out by the gas log. A gas fireplace is cleaner than a wood burning fireplace because there is no ash mess to worry about. The screen will beautify your gas fireplace and add to its charm, while a grate is essential to keep your gas fireplace running smoothly. Like the hearth fenders for a wood fireplace, an hearth fender will, in a gas fireplace, protect its structure and add to its beauty.

There will always be a great debate as to whether you should go with a gas or a wood fireplace.  Obviously, there are trade offs with both kinds of fireplaces, but in terms of accessories it is probably a bit cheaper in the long run to go with gas.  Now this is obviously debatable and can be argued to death, but that is just my opinion.  There are several reasons that a wood fireplace has the potential to be cheaper for some people (in some situations) as well.

Electric Fireplace Accessories

Some say the electric fireplace is the way to go because it is safer and portable. There are really no traditional accessories that go along with an electric fireplace as there are for the wood and gas. But you can choose how you wish your electric fireplace to look by mounting it or adding a mantle, or selecting what it is made of like cast iron, marble, etc. The inside of an electric fireplace can also be varied using imitation coal or imitation logs. Probably the most popular accessory that goes along with an electric fireplace is the remote control. Sitting in your comfortable chair, you can change its settings with just a click of your finger.  Now that is good living right there!
