Refurbished Laptop

By

Many different people have a real need for a discounted price on a laptop computer.  For whatever reason, they simply cannot afford to walk into an electronics superstore and pay full price for a brand new machine.  And yet they still might have a real need for a laptop.  For example, college or even high school students might need a laptop in order to do schoolwork.  Just about anyone else might need a portable machine for general internet usage as well.  Whatever the reason, there is definitely a real demand out there for cheaper laptops that people can actually afford.

One solution: a cheap refurbished laptop

One of the best solutions in this case is to look into getting a refurbished laptop.  A lot of people scoff at the idea of getting a refurbished machine but really there are some great deals to be had if you are willing to consider the idea.  For one thing, most refurbished machines have not been beat up half as badly as what you are thinking.  Most of them are simply open box items that got returned for a simple reason (other than that they broke) and they have since been repackaged.  Just because it says that it is refurbished does not necessarily mean that it got run over by a semi and tossed in a lake and has since been fixed by the factory.  In most cases it has simply been opened once and then immediately returned.

Now some stores also sell such items as an open box item, so this can get confusing.  But in online retail, most customer returns eventually do get sold as a refurbished product.  Also keep in mind that most, if not all refurbished products, get sold with the same warranty that a new product carries on it, so you are protected in that respect as well.  In other words, buying refurbished does not mean you are taking this huge risk and that your laptop is going to break down on you and you will be out of the money.  In fact it is a pretty safe investment and will generally carry the same warranty as a new machine.  If you want to know the real danger it is in buying a used laptop....that is a complete crap shoot, with no warranty involved.  If you buy used then you are taking a much bigger risk than if you buy refurbished.

Where to buy refurbished laptops

Start with the major manufacturers such as Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, Dell, and so on.  If you do some research you should be able to get a great deal on a machine that suits your needs.  The key is to figure out exactly what you need an then to buy nothing more.  You don't want to be paying money for extra features and such that you do not really need.  You are looking into refurbished laptops for a reason, because you want the best price.  As such, you need to try and buy the least amount of machine that you can get away with.

The starting point in this case is going to be netbooks.  Step number one is to figure out if you can get away with using a netbook and being ultimately happy with it as your laptop.  You might test this out by going to an store such as Walmart or a Best Buy and actually typing some stuff out on the various netbooks that they carry.  Click some icons and type up a paragraph or two.  Get a feel for if you feel comfortable doing real work on a netbook.  If not then you know you need to step up to at least a 14 inch or larger notebook for your purchase.  But if you can feel comfortable on the netbooks then that will really help out your bottom line when you go to make your purchase.

Once you know how little machine you can get away with, it is time to do some price research.  Simple searches online will show you how to browse the refurbished outlets for all the major manufacturers.  There you can compare the prices and see what the best deal is.  Now here is the key: do not stop there and make your purchase just yet.  Wait for the sale.  That's right, almost all of these companies eventually have periodic sales on their refurbished machines.  Most will offer a discount along with free shipping, so that is your time to buy when you see that.  If you don't see deals like that then keep watching and waiting and within a month or less a sale should pop up at one of the companies you have researched.

Ther is no need to pay full price anymore for a laptop when you can get a refurbished machine on sale.  Also remember to do your homework so that you do not buy too much machine and you should come out with a very good deal indeed, getting exactly what you need at a price you can afford.
