If you are looking for a cheap but reliable brand to go with for your next desktop computer, you might take a look at the Acer brand.  Many people are not very familiar with this brand but it is a solid and cheap choice for basic computing needs.  Now in most cases if you are looking for a high end gaming system or if you need to do heavy video editing or something then you might go with a more sophisticated computer and brand, but those are specialty cases where you have special needs for the computer.

Take a look at the evolution of operating systems and you will see why this is the case.  Basically, we are all still using pretty versions of Windows 98 on our every day computers.  Where is the voice recognition software navigation?  Where are the intuitive and seamless telepathic neural control devices?  We thought these things were coming sooner to our operating systems and that they would demand super fast computer chips to run them, but they have yet to materialize.  Instead the world is still warming up to daily web use and most software choices rarely goes beyond basic office apps and some light multimedia stuff.  People use their computers for internet, music, and movies.  Some people go a bit beyond this and do some graphic work or some gaming.  Well, all of these things are very possible on an Acer desktop computer.  The fact of the matter is that if you buy a modest desktop today, it will still be faster than the top of the line models from just a few short years ago.  And yet, software has not really changed.  There have been no quantum leaps forward in what we are demanding from our computers.  At one point Microsoft released a rather clunky version of Windows that seemed to require faster machines, but people quickly realized that these were superfluous changes and that it was all about the eye candy and window dressing.  Customer demand quickly shifted this back towards more streamlined and effecient code so that our programs would run faster.  Future versions are already planning on being lighter and more streamlined, thus lessening the demand for high speed computers.

Acer desktop computers are all you need in our current world of software and hardware.  Nothing more is really needed to get real work done on a computer.  Don't let someone sell you on the idea that you need something expensive or exotic when it comes to your computer purchase.  Acer desktops are plenty fast and they are also reliable and fairly cheap.  They make a good choice if you just need the basics and want to have some flexibility in your computer setup.  There is always room for expansion later if you want to add a gaming card or anything like that.  Check them out, you will not be disappointed.
